We have had a few changes in our team lately. Helen started the trend by leaving us to go and get a “real job” haha 😦 but we know we will see her and Matt really soon, because they are part of the family now 😉
On the horse front, the changes started with saying goodbye to Siege last Monday, he headed off to Jess Land in Christchurch. He’s such a sweet, cool horse, I can’t wait to watch Jess and Siege out there together!!!
Tuesday morning saw Izablu head off to the very cold South. I admit I had a tear in my eye as he left, but he’s going to the most amazing home, with 18,000 acres to go mustering on, plus competitions.
Wednesday morning SE Godswalk left to Australia with the lovely Katt McKinnon. Thank you Blackhawk Farm for selling this stunning mare, I think Katt and I will agree you guys were great to deal with through this purchase. Also a massive thank you to Julie Bachelor for giving me the ride on this amazing mare for the season. There certainly is a massive hole in my team without her consistent performances!!!
Saturday saw the coolest pony Blown Away sold to Ella Davison. Melissa Douglas has done an amazing job with Blew over the last few years and Ella’s smile said it all!!! Melissa then caught me at a weak moment and somehow managed to convince me to sell her G. I Jane aka Girl Bone’s… on the condition when she’s trained her up I get to buy her back…!!!
The other horse to leave my team is Henton First Edition aka Fraser, who has moved onto Anna Beverley. Thank you so much to the Beverley family for their amazing support and the ride on Fraser over the last 4 years. He certainly has a big future with Anna and I’m excited to see them out and about together 🙂
So with all of those horses moving on, I did replace a couple… First one joining the team is Art who came to us from Jess Land. He’s a 4yr old, a cool boy who is rather a tall guy. I’m hoping big things come from him 🙂
The next is horse to join the team is Spanner from Katie Russell. She is a 15.3hh chestnut mare whose possibly the sweetest horse I have ever meet, and her first truck ride was from Gore to here! She’s worldly now Katie and even been “overseas” already! haha
With the gaps in my upper level team, I have taken over the ride on Mendoza from Elise for this season :))) He’s ready to go 2* soon and I’m really excited to take him the rest of the way :)) Look out for this guy, he’s a superstar in the making!
Dani is flat out with Netball this term as she made the Senior A team for Hauraki Plains College so if Elise and I aren’t here covered in mud, creosote or horse hair, we are to be found at the netball courts in Ngatea 🙂
The Spurs of Counties September Horse Trial: Since Elise and I had the bright idea to talk to Mum and Dad about getting Waerenga back on the ESNZ event calendar again, it’s been full steam ahead! I don’t think we have stopped from that moment!
Baby Draper and Magnet (his new puppy), Grandad 9 toes (this didn’t happen during the demolition!!!) and Dad’s Rowing boys Eli and Finn (you may want to check out their photos below :))))…. have all been helping us to pull down horse paddocks, fixing up 100s of yards and generally tidying up the facilities.
There is no shortage of work to be done, so don’t be shy in asking how you can help! 😉
Mike Gilford is our newly appointed course designer and his imaginative mind is in overdrive for future events! We have our conveners sorted (you guys are soooo lucky 🙂 We also have our publicity person… thank you Chanel… 🙂 Dad is trying to teach us anything and everything to help…. Mum & Gaye McClunie have their gardening gloves on! We just need a million other things… etc…etc….etc… 🙂
We have another working bee here on the 8th & 9th of August, so “come on down!” we would LOVE to see you!!!
